From the chapter on printer circuit board fabrication
This section covers the fabrication of printed wiring boards, including
materials, processes, defects and inspection.
Printed wiring boards, also known as printed circuit boards (PWB
and PCB, respectively) are the thin slabs on which components are placed,
with thin paths of wires that interconnect components. Also known as "bare
boards," PWBs are manufactured primarily by specialized suppliers of the
boards.
While PCB is interchangeable with PWB, I will use PWB when
referring to bare boards rather than to the boards with components already
affixed, that is, assembled printed circuit boards. Later in this book,
PCB will signify the assembled board.
